What's Inside: Songs from Waitress
What’s Inside showcases the marvelous music Sara Bareilles composed for the American Repertory Theater’s musical adaptation of the 2007 film Waitress. The singer/songwriter’s elaborate arrangements and dynamic vocals betray a deep sympathy for main character Jenna, a waitress and pie maker who struggles to break free from the grip of her manipulative husband. But you don’t need be familiar with the storyline to fully appreciate Bareilles’s sophisticated art-pop. “Opening Up,” “She Used to Be Mine” and the Paul McCartney-flavored “Never Ever Getting Rid of Me” stand on their own.
