The Blessed Unrest by Sara Bareilles

Play on Napster
Label: Epic
Unlike Kaleidoscope Heart, which from beginning to end came steeped in baroque-flavored pop, The Blessed Unrest is a grab bag of surprises. Both "Brave" and "Eden" are punchy numbers built upon strikingly programmed grooves nicked from EDM. "Satellite Call," in contrast, is dreamy, echo-soaked balladry that sounds like little else in Bareilles' catalog. And then there's "Cassiopeia," effects-laden art rock that is pure Electric Light Orchestra. While The Blessed Unrest certainly lacks sonic consistency, it just might be the singer-songwriter's most ambitious effort to date.
