Cope by Manchester Orchestra

Play on Napster
Label: Concord/Loma Vista/Caroline
Andy Hull's got the right kind of ambitions for his fourth album, a grayscale rock album that's "pounding you over the head with every track," which is extra admirable from a guy who sings kind of like Kermit the Frog. But he succeeds wildly on Cope, which even crunches like Alice In Chains on the otherwise waltzy "The Ocean" and delights with precise pull-and-release harmonies on "Girl Harbor," two of the highlights on this quick pile of guitars and vocals that's both tight and tune-smart.
