Love Me Again
Label: Universal-Island Records Ltd.
This vintage-hued, heart-baring, soul-slinging Brit made a splash in the UK with guest shots on tracks like Rudimental's "Feel the Love" and big, echoing, handclap-riddled jams like "Love Me Again." On his full-length debut, Newman falls somewhere between a gruffer Adele, a sweeter Cee-Lo, a less smarmy Adam Levine and a singing Macklemore. His distinctive, scratchy vocals soar over electro-pop cut with little Motown touches, ringing call-and-response R&B all synthed up for next-gen audiences, and other varieties of done-wrong anthems (the bluesy "Cheating" is a highlight).
