The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again
Label: Verve Forecast
When Creedence broke up, John Fogerty's first order of business was to release a country music covers album. Now, decades later, Fogerty returns to the Blue Ridge Rangers conceit and lays out on another set of covers (and he revives his own "Change in the Weather"). Tunes by Ricky Nelson sit comfortably with John Prine, while he doesn't shy away from John Denver's "Back Home Again" or Pat Boone's "Moody River." The number of styles and tempos Fogerty tackles is impressive, and yet this is still a comfortable, friendly set, with old pals like Bruce Springsteen and Don Henley dropping by.
