Hip Hop Police
Label: Universal / Chamillitary
Chamillionaire uses the second single from his sophomore major label album to once again take aim at police malfeasance. A cynic would say that the H-Town rapper is shamelessly trying to recreate the smash “Ridin’ Dirty,” while a booster would say that the rapper has found his cause and is sticking with it. Either way, Chamillionaire is always a compelling emcee, and here he raps from the perspective of both the cop and the assailant. The Dre-dramatic strings, as well as lyrical allusions to Snoop’s “Gin and Juice” and “Murder Was the Case,” imbue “Police” with a definite old school, West Coast vibe.
