A Man Amongst Men
Label: Rhino Atlantic
While the grisly anti-drug rap "Kids Don't Do It" is a major draw here, you want to check out this very late period album from Diddley for the opener, "Bo Diddley Is Crazy," which wriggles and rocks like an amalgamation of "Who Do You Love" and Aerosmith's "Walk This Way." Diddley also tries out some Screamin' Jay Hawkins-style vocal freakouts, a perfect example of his unmatched dedication to entertaining. The dude just wants people to have fun. Amid the competently delivered B.B. King-type songs are the smoldering blues-funk winner, "I Can't Stand It" and "Hey Baby," which resurrects "Mona."
